In Which I Relate A Recurring Dream

The other night I had one of my recurring dreams. This one had me swaying back and forth.

In the dream I am standing with me feet firmly planted on the ground. My feet never move. But my body is able to bend forward, sideways, backwards at about a 45 degree angle. It's almost as if my body has a spring-like action to it...I sway slowly forwards, backwards, sideways, enjoying the movement, stretching the bend as far as I can and then swaying in another direction. All the while my feet remain flat, firmly planted.

There is no stress to the movement. My body is in fine control and the movement is easy. I haven't a clue where this dream comes from nor why it recurs.

Please forgive the amateur drawings. I don't have a photo. *smile*

As for some of my other recurring dreams? You can read about them here.

(It is quite truthful to say you really did not learn a lot by reading today's post.)

*Heading off to read Chapter 2 of First Chronicles.*
(that may be more useful than regaling this dream)

Keep Your Eyes on the Kid With the Mitt!

There's a penguin somewhere in Pennsylvania.

Sorry...I borrowed that line from Debby. Keep reading.

The summer months must be busy ones for most of us. I've noticed that many of my fellow bloggers are skipping days, writing short posts, bemoaning their lack of words. The truth is, we're enjoying summer.

Except for Debby, who is slugging it out trying to keep her nose above water while taking a summer class in Anatomy and Physiology...at least I think that's the class...A&P. With the pressure of school, job, home, she's getting delusional. This week she spotted a penguin in a tree while driving down the highway. In Pennsylvania, no less! I don't know what to say about that except that she just finished up a psych class and I'm certain that had nothing to do with the penguin sighting.

As for me? Last night I had one of those recurring dreams. In the dream I am getting dressed to be somewhere important and I'm rummaging through the closet trying to find something to wear. I find plenty of clothes but they are either dirty or one size too small. Last night I found several nice skirts, none of which were familiar and none of which fit!

And what is this important event that I'm attending? This morning I'll be spending four hours in a recliner while Nurse D administers a series of drugs. Carboplatin. Paclitaxel. Avastin. Plus several more drugs that prevent nausea, fever, allergic reaction. Plus the Benedryl. Which knocks me out for the duration of the four hour infusion. I don't worry about sleeping the night before because I know I'll get a good rest in the chemo chair.

Other things are happening in our lives, of course. Granddaughter M visited from Oregon and brought Great-grandson Marcus. He plans to play baseball in college and told his mom he needed a glove so he could start practicing Now! I've seen some little kid-size gloves but never one so small (and so cute!)

As for my reading of Kevin DeYoung's The Good News We Almost Forgot, I'm enjoying it very much. I'll post about it soon. So keep tuned.

I Have Recurring Dreams and Some of Them are Colorful

I didn't realize I have so many recurring dreams until I began to write about them. You can read about my dream about flying (if you can call hovering over the carpet as 'real' flying) and my recurring dream about commemorative pennies. And you can read about my recurring dream of flying down stair banisters. The funny thing is these are always pleasant dreams and maybe that's why they are recurring ... I just plain like them.

When my daughter told me of her dream that featured puppies born with colored fur ... not black or brown or white, but colors as in purple and blue it reminded me of my own recurring dream of colored pets. In my case it was kittens, not puppies. In my dreams the kittens have fur of 'natural' turquoise or magenta or some other color. It is a color they are born with and in the dream I realize that this color will be genetically passed on to the offspring. What a cool, colorful dream.

The Recurring Dream I Used to Enjoy the Most!

Its been years since I dreamt this one. I used to dream that I could fly. Yep! Fly! Not very high, but I could fly. In the dream this is how I did it. I would sit on the floor with my legs folded cross-legged under me, put my hands down and push down without actually touching the floor. If I balanced just right I could hover about a foot above the floor. Then if I moved just right I could move forward, backward, sideways, always remaining in that sitting position with my legs folded in front of me. And if I REALLY had my balance just perfect I could hover up to the ceiling and carefully zoom around the room. The dream was so vivid that I almost believed it ... that in my waking moments I could really do this! I really miss that dream!

Another Recurring Dream

I don't dream this one anymore, but in years past, I had this dream often. As a child I collected pennies and put them in those little blue folding penny books. In the dream I would be checking my latest batch of pennies and now and then would find a "commemorative" penny, one which featured on the reverse a particular state. These were always a special find and I was disappointed upon waking that it was only a dream.

Then Uncle Sam decided to mint the commemorative quarters. I'm certain he stole my idea, but I can't prove it. (Big grin here.) And since then I no longer have that particular dream.

Nah, I don't believe in ESP or in the paranormal. I deal with life on concrete terms (although I certainly believe in spiritual things for I am a follower of Jesus Christ). Still...I've had several recurring dreams and this was one of them. It was always fun finding (in the dream) one of those special pennies.

And, yes, I have a collection of the state quarters.

Recurring Dreams

I've had several recurring dreams (who hasn't?). Last night I had a dream that I've dreamt many times before. In the dream I'm going down a flight of stairs with my feet in a "ski" position in such a way that I skim the front edges of the steps in a speedy, smooth descent. My hand is on the handrail which gives me some stability in this fast trip. If I balance just right, the move from the top step to the bottom is smooth, uninterrupted, fast. I haven't stumbled yet in this dream!

I suppose it dates back to my school days. We attended a three-story school building. The top floor was the high school and there were two flights of steps between each floor...about ten steps in one direction, then around a short corner to take ten more steps in the opposite direction. I was always running down those steps (as was every other kid in school) and once I tripped and skidded on my bottom, hitting several steps, leaving a huge blue knot of a bruise that took forever to disappear. Even though I was never able to "ski" as in the dream, I would balance my hand on the handrail and jump several steps at a time.

That was when I was young and agile and always in a hurry. Nowadays I tread carefully downstairs and up and only dream about going faster.
